Catalogue

Overview

The USC Catalogue is published online annually in early June. A print version is no longer available, though a print-friendly option for each webpage is available. Once the catalogue is published, changes can be made only to correct inaccuracies.

The next academic year’s catalogue, known as the “Production Catalogue,” is in production from October to May. Contact the Catalogue Office to request read-only access to it. Access is given to those involved in updating catalogue content. Catalogue contact information can be found on our Contact Us page.

The Catalogue Office works in conjunction with the Curriculum Coordination Office to update curricular information in the “Production Catalogue” during the production months. Non-curricular catalogue information such as faculty appointments, policy updates and admission changes  — is also updated during this time. See Submitting Updates.

Style Guidelines

The Catalogue Style Guide contains editorial guidelines for grammar and punctuation as well as university-specific conventions, such as the proper names of schools and departments. It is intended to provide a set of consistent editorial standards specifically for Catalogue Office publications. It is not designed to be a guideline for technical or academic writing.

Guidelines are based on university style, as well as the AP Stylebook, Briefing on Media Law and the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. Updates will be made as needed.

Submitting Updates

Curriculum changes must be processed through the Curriculum Coordination Office. Instructions can be found on the Curriculum page.

Corrections of inaccuracies for the current catalogue may be submitted at any time during the year. Allow up to 24 hours for changes to be reviewed and made. During high production months (January through April), please allow up to two weeks. Catalogue contact information can be found on our Contact Us page.

Annual school content review: In January, the Catalogue Office will provide training to school curriculum coordinators for editing the non-curricular portions of their school sections of the catalogue. In February, trained curriculum coordinators will have access to these sections of the “Production Catalogue” to review and update. Content can be reviewed during production months on the site. The “Production Catalogue” will become the online catalogue for the next academic year. For read-only, log-in access, contact the Catalogue Office.

Faculty updates to the current catalogue can be submitted throughout the year, and will be made as time allows. Faculty updates for the “Production Catalogue” can be made throughout the production months. Allow up to three weeks during peak production months (January to April). Catalogue contact information can be found on our Contact Us page.

Non-school sections (such as “Academic and University Policies,” “Undergraduate Education,” “Graduate and Professional Education”) will be updated in the “Production Catalogue” on an annual basis starting in February. Content editors will receive access to relevant section copy to review and update. Policies and other relevant information can be updated in the current catalogue at any time. Allow up to 24 hours for changes to be reviewed and made and up to two weeks during peak production months (January through April).

Catalogue access is given to those involved in updating catalogue content.

Production Timeline

Approved curriculum proposals will appear in the “Production Catalogue” approximately 10 days after being exported via Curriculog by the Curriculum Coordination Office. Allow three to four weeks during peak production months (January to March).
